Portrait Lighting: Matching Color Temperatures on Location

Step Five

schmelzer_portrait_temperature_5For fill, I placed another Spiderlite with a medium strip and 100 watts of light on the floor in vertical position next to my camera, aiming up, to give detail to the shadows. Note: Don’t use too much up light, or overpower the main, as this can look artificial. What’s nice about using an up light for fill is that it will counter-attack the shadow being made by the main light and reduce any bags under the eyes—almost like instant retouching.
