High-Speed Flash for Dynamic Photos | Tutorial

Step Three

High-Speed Flash Photography. Lyons, CO. Kayaking on the St. Vrain river.I positioned my first light aimed at the kayaker’s front side to fill in the shadows. I used an Elinchrom Ranger Free Lite S Head, a slower flash duration head than the A Head, but necessary for HyperSync to work. I was very careful to put my Ranger pack on dry ground away from the river. Eleven hundred watts of power falling into the river would be a bad thing. I added lots of sandbags to secure the light on the shore. Since this light was so close to the paddler, I put a standard reflector on the head. This pack was set at 75% power, more than enough to fill flash the kayaker.
