Using Gels For Flash Photography – Combat Nighttime White Balance Problems with CTO & Stacking of Gels

Step Two:

Ybor, Florida. Tutorial on CTO gels , Gels for Flash Photography

Backing SJ up under the awning of the storefront solves the conflicting light problem, but to get a good exposure on her face, I either need to increase my ISO or drag my shutter to a slower speed. The problem is that a higher ISO will introduce noise, and a slower shutter speed will introduce blur.

Adding a flash to the image will definitely solve some blur and noise problems because it adds great light into the scene. The problem that we run into is that the light is blue in tone. This is where Gels for Flash Photography can really help. To balance those lights with the original, we’ll need to gel the flash.
