To continue adding separation to the shot, I added a second Quadra light on the left side of the model. This head had the standard reflector attached, and was aimed so that only the bottom edge of the light would hit Annelise’s hair and shoulder. Feathering a light like this eliminates spill onto the ground and opposing shadows. Shadows coming from opposite sides look strange because we’re used to having shadows being produced by one light, the sun. I wanted this flashhead to highlight Annelise’s hair and create rim light on her shoulder. I set this head to 214 W. At this point I had a nice shot, but the image in my book looked a little better. I needed more shimmer in her hair. Time to add another accent light.
