Step Two

Annelise, my model from the original shot, showed up on time and ready to go. Annelise’s career has taken off—she walks runways and does fashion shoots more than anything else. I knew one challenge would be getting her into a healthy lifestyle mode:no pouty lips or seductive looks on this shoot! To get her into the zone, we did a few available-light shots. The images looked flat, but this helped both of us get back into our groove to shoot a track portrait. 

I shot lifestyle and athletic imagery for Columbia Sportswear for many years, and a favorite look was a model “challenged but happy, goal accomplished.” I wanted Annelise looking like she had just done laps on the track and was resting in between sessions.
