Making Sure Patterns Don't Do the Stretch

Working with a series of rectangle that are filled with the same pattern, you decide to make one of the rectangles taller. You select the rectangle with your Selection tool and drag upwards from the top center Bounding Box point. As you drag upward, you notice that the pattern is being distorted, stretching vertically with the rectangle. Hmm! Not exactly what you had in mind. Is there a way to use the Bounding Box to change an object’s size without this unintended pattern distortion?

Open the Transform palette (Window > Transform), and under the Options flyout menu, select “Transform Object Only,” instead of the Default “Transform Both.” Now you can Transform just the object.
