When It Comes to Live Trace, Don't Reinvent the Wheel

When working with Live Trace to convert a pixel image to vector, I always start with a Preset. With names like “Comic Art,” “Type,” and “Black and White Logo”, the names of the Presets do a great job of describing the kinds of art being converted, so it’s easy to pick the right one. I usually use one of the many Presets as a starting point and make alterations to the settings to tweak the results to perfection for the kind of art being traced. To do so, I select the placed pixel image and go to the Object menu > Live Trace > Tracing Options. In the window that opens, I make my alterations and if I plan on tracing this kind of art again, I save my new settings as a Preset. So, when converting a similar piece of art again, instead of reinventing the wheel, I can get rolling fast.
