This Week on The Grid: What Makes a Photo Stand Out?

What makes one photograph stand out from thousands of others? Scott Kelby and Erik Kuna had plenty of examples to work with on this week’s special Worldwide Photo Walk edition of The Grid.

Scott and Erik revealed the winner, finalists, and honorable mentions from the 18th Annual Worldwide Photo Walk photo contest, taking a closer look at what made the strongest images rise to the top. Great light, color, timing, gesture, composition, and those unexpected moments all played a part.

It’s also a good reminder for anyone who spends a lot of time in Photoshop. Post-processing can help strengthen an image, but the strongest photographs often start with something that can’t be added later: a great moment, a compelling point of view, or being in exactly the right place at the right time.

Later in the show, Kevin LaRue from SlickPic joined Scott and Erik for a look at Open Portfolios, a new free tool that uses AI to organize your images and quickly turn them into a complete portfolio website.
