Toast 8 Titanium
Burning CDs and DVDs has never been so much fun
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” right? How do you improve what’s already the industry standard for media burning and authoring? By adding a ton of new features, capabilities, and a gorgeous, intuitive interface that makes you just want to burn DVDs and CDs for no apparent reason.
Of course, the first outwardly noticeable thing about Toast 8 Titanium is the interface and fluid animations for each category and progress bar. Then you can select the subcategory and easily navigate to adjust text- or video-interface options. Roxio even added new audio features to go beyond simply archiving your files, photos, movies, music, and more. The changes aren’t just visible; there’s support for wireless transfers with TiVoToGo that goes right to your iPod, PSP, and DVD and there’s also support for EyeTV. Great new DVD themes for simple navigation of photos and videos are standard, but very functional. Roxio has also added damaged-disk file recovery, complete Blu-ray support, and multi-format support for almost any type of burning needs that you have.
Even if you’re a Toast expert, features you may not have used before are now more accessible. Given how reasonable the cost of physical media, experimenting a bit may be worth a few discs to see how impressive Toast 8 Titanium truly is—in every aspect. In today’s world of DVR, PhotoCDs, and dual-layer DVDs, you really can take it all with you. There’s more to this software than utility and function; there’s fun. And this product continues to grow, improve, and perform extremely well. Maybe Roxio has rewritten that old adage so that it now reads, “If it ain’t Toast, don’t burn it.”— Daniel M. East
