On Location: High-Angle Rock Climbing Photography Shoot

Step Five

I got out another Quadra pack, placed a 7″ grid reflector onto the head, and put a 40° grid into the reflector. This light would add some highlight to the climber’s back, and the grid would keep the light from spilling all over the rock face. I clipped the Quadra onto another Manfrotto 269HDBU light stand, and upit went. This light was placed opposite the softbox, creating cross lighting on the climber. The Quadras have a built-in radio receiver that allowed me to control flash output at the camera using a Skyport transmitter. Since this light was out of my reach, Steve helped angle the light onto the climber’s back. Now my vertical studio was in place, and I was ready to go.
