Why stop when you can add more light? While I liked the one-soft-light look, I knew Melissa’s long hair would look great with an accent light. To create this rim light, I used another Ranger with an A head and added a 40° grid to the light to keep the strobe from spilling all over the scene. Basically, I wanted her hair and a little of the car illuminated, nothing else. I used an Elinchrom Skyport to trigger and control output of my flashes. Having wireless control at the camera is very convenient and efficient. The sun was making Melissa squint, so I had a friend hold up another octabank to block the light on her face (I left my scrims at home). The accent light added nice highlights to Melissa’s hair, and gave her separation from the background.
