I couldn’t get it to work circle-rectangle blend to work. I went through the tutorial again and again and got the same wrong result using the same colors he did. I got a blend of grayish-black banding from the circle border to to the rectangle. Regardless of what I tried, I couldn’t get his result and have no idea why. What would cause red and white to create a gray-black blend? Who knows.

Good tips on blending in Illustrator. Another tip: You can preflight, collect and package Adobe Illustrator files with FlightCheck by Markzware.
