Next, I positioned two hair lights, one up above the subject’s hair, placing a 20º fabric grid to prevent excess spread of light on the shoulders or other places where I don’t want the light. I positioned the second hair light so it lit the side of her hair that the camera would see. It also has a 20º fabric grid to stop light spill over the bare shoulders.

Fabric grids come in different opening diameters, such as 20º, 30º, 40º, 50º, and 60º. The normal opening is 40º, but I chose a smaller opening to ensure that it would be more precisely aimed.
