Is There a Way to Align Objects to One Particular Object?

By default, if I select several objects and choose the Align Left Edges button in the Align palette (Window > Object & Layout > Align), the command will Align the left edges to the left edge of the left-most object. Or if I select several objects and click the Align Bottom Edges button, the bottom edges of all the objects will Align to the bottom edge of the bottom-most object. Is there a way to align to the bottom edges of all the objects to an object other than the bottom-most object?

Sure! Before using the Align command, Lock the object to which you would like to Align (Object > Lock). Select all object that you’d like to Align and press your Align button. All the objects will now be forced to Align to the Locked object. Unlock your object and you’re done (Object > Unlock).
