RIT Receives Gift of Extensis Software
Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, N.Y., recently received gifts of Extensis Suitcase Fusion and Portfolio 8 software to support its Arts and Imaging Studies program.
The software, worth an estimated $13,000, provides professional design solutions for font management to assist design professionals. Whenever designers, desktop publishers, print media specialists, and Web designers or developers create a new document, it involves organizing dozens, sometimes hundreds, of “assets” such as type fonts, a huge array of files and file-types. Suitcase Fusion is specifically designed to handle the thousands of type fonts available in an organized and easily accessible manner. Portfolio 8 helps to organize all the assets used by designers.
“These very generous donations of Suitcase Fusion and Portfolio 8 are wonderful enhancements to our arts and imaging programs for deaf and hard-of-hearing students,” John Cox, chairperson of NTID’s Arts and Imaging Studies Department, said. “These applications will allow students to become experienced in cutting-edge organization and the efficient use of fonts and other digital assets. As graphics professionals are well aware, this efficiency represents a significant savings of time and resources. As a result of these donations, our graduates will be better prepared to function effectively in the graphics workplace. We are very grateful to Extensis for this gift.”
