Lighting for Weddings: Formals Suck
Again I’m in a giant room that’s almost completely dark, but I do have plenty of time to set up. I needed a ton of power, and quick recycle time, so I dragged out my trusty Lumedynes—they have a stackable power system and give you some great options for studio-type lighting in a battery pack. I used a 6′ Octabank at a 45° angle plus another head with a small 30″ umbrella on the side for fill. Also, I put an LP160 at 45° from behind as a kicker. That little bit of “raw” light made a big difference to help create separation from the background.
