I believe the reason overlay is not working for you is that you are working in CMYK. If you change your document to RGB, overlay will work...better....different.

If you are in a CMYK environment, like me, we tend to forget there are people out there who never print anything.

Are you dizzy or something mate? This tutorial is to teach people techniques, not show them how to produce finished pieces, and for the record, if you're such an amazing designer why exactly are you trawling tut sites posting negative crap? Your comments are way off the mark and really just made you look like an arse. Take note of how many people were thankful of this. I wonder if you are scared of competition? Thats what I would guess at. Maybe a little bitter that the corel draw/web design kiddies are catching up with you? Hahaha

In order for overlay to work, the document needs to be in rgb mode. In the new document window select advanced. There you can change the color mode.

Although I now use Illustrator and Photoshop for my graphic designs, I originally started learning digitally on CorelDRAW. There is a digital artist at Stardock and Wincustomize.com named Mormegil. He produced a series of tutorials of "Icon Packager" icons a day at a time for anyone interested in following along to learning digital drawing. His number one tool was the mesh tool. He used it quite extensively and I now use the tool as prominently as any other tool in the box. There are many fantastic ways of implimenting shading, color, shapes, and depth by way of the mesh tool. And although he made the tutorial using DRAW, he said, and rightfully so, that any and all parts of the tutorials would work very much the same way with Illustrator. If after going through this tutorial on these pages, and you like this mesh tool and want to see more of its variables and capabilities, you could always Google him to find them. The tutorial is called "Icon-a-Day' tutorial series. Good luck and have fun creating!
