I'm not changing to DW just for a few funky ajax and spy bits. DW is painful, GL is intuitive.
I hate the site definition in DW, its so much hassle. It's kinda funny reading this article as most of the options for the way that GoLive handles things is much better! I guess at the ned of the day, its really about how good you can get with code, I think it's hilarious that you could in theory build the ultimate website in Notepad!!

I've only just started converting all my clients' sites from GoLive to DW, and want to thank you for these tips. It's a daunting task -- frankly I'd prefer to stick with GoLive -- but there appears to be no choice. So a big THANK YOU to anyone, including Lynn at Adobe and the lovely people at Lynda.com, whose advice/instructions make the whole learning curve a lot less stressful.

Using Dreamweaver CS2 is really like taking a step back for Golive users. I just hope Adobe finds a way to add all the great features of Golive into the next Dreamweaver.

Hi. Having the same problem. I can get the GL2DW plugin to work fine for small sites (75 pages) but no luck at all with a 500 page site that really matters to me. The conversion shoots along quickly till the very end and then hangs up trying to convert Components into Library items. If I can't make this conversion I am going to really be in trouble. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

I'm not thrilled after using GL for 7 years, but I see some advantages to DW. The GL9 interface is poor. I'm only using the download for the trial to transfer sites. Then I imagine I'll be moving on with DW.

Using GL2DW has worked for some smaller sites, but not for all. I'm running into problems with a site (313 pages).

I discovered you need to change the Library folder to Snippets (Extras), but still have problems.

I use menumachine and tried working with both, but for me it was convoluted, and I wouldn't want to make it a part of a normal workflow.

Well, I found that GL2DW that came with CS3 didn't work to transition my site to DW. I got an error on a file in my MenuMachine extension that stopped the process. Thanks to the MenuMachine tech support they sent me an updated GL2DW that did the trick. Said it was kinder and gentler to the MenuMachine extension that the previous version.

I too find that DW is not as intuitive as GoLive. But each have their advantages. I am making the difficult transition, but a year from now that will be history. I am hoping that MenuMachine makes a version for DW. Their GoLive extension was real slick. I find that DW's spry widgets are challenging and don't give the results like MenMachine. Anyway, I'll make it through this transition, in spite of Adobe.

It simply doesn't exist, judging from a long-standing thread at the DreamWeaver Users forum. Just read the Resources at the mentioned webpage and enjoy DreamWeaver !

Don't worry, fellow GoLive'rs. Adobe's tradition of unifying their application interfaces is a sure sign that DW will soon evolve into an advanced GoLive, leaving DW users to adapt. It's my feeling that Adobe just didn't want to anger and hinder the vast DW community with the GL ways all at once. I foresee the Properties Inspector, the Insert Bar, the cartoonish-looking icons, and all of the other freakish ways of doing things being phased out quickly by Adobe. Flash is already well on it's way with CS3.

Like Lynn, I've been using GoLive since before Adobe bought it. It's become second nature to me and I've been very distressed that Adobe has relegated it to second class status. I've messed around with Dreamweaver but have never found it very intuitive, completely unlike GoLive. From Lynn's article, she sounds like an apologist for Dreamweaver than a real supporter. There are so many tips for getting around Dreamweaver's standard features or preferences that it doesn't make me feel confident that the program is set up properly in the first place. I'm not a happy camper.
