Great Tips – but there are other ways to zoom in and out.

Command 0 (zero) is fit to page
Command – zoom out
Command + zoom in

That tip for the polygon tool is sweet, I also found that you can make a star at the same time with the left and right arrow keys, it splits along the horizontals and drags the points in.
