You get many things by visiting the site of David Ziser, but my main reason to hit it up daily is for the inspiration. The image above is courtesy of his site, Digital Pro Talk. This time around, he is waxing on about his past years as a photographer and engineer (an engineer… deep). It’s great to take a look at his past work and see how photography was being done without the use of tether cables, Lightroom, or Lucis Art – not that any of those are bad (I just shot and played with all three this morning). Anyway.. thanks for the contribution and lesson David – much appreciated.

Joe McNally isn’t that far behind with some back history on his shooting. Always a joy to read a post on the blog.

I’ve been toying around with an idea for the Layers TV show – this is what I am thinking. What if we covered a viewer’s problem on a live taping of the show? I figure, if you send us a question, we can set it up so we can talk and we go over the problem together right on Layers TV? Now, this will be for questions, not projects. “I want to learn how to make a Red Interactive type website” isn’t a problem we can solve in 20 minutes. (btw.. if you haven’t seen that website, you can get lost in it.. way cool stuff.)

Great Flash tutorial, and some ACE stuff after the jump!

Flash Tutorial from Lee Brimelow
The keeper of The Flash Blog and a Layers Magazine contributing writer, Lee Brimelow has got a great tutorial on Flash, located here in the Tutorials section. Be sure to give this thing a check! If you want to see more Lee goodness (I almost deliberately left out the o in that, but didn’t) Make sure you check out The Flash Blog, or his other site GoToandLearn.

Adobe Certified Expert
Adobe has a certification program called the Adobe Certified Expert – or ACE. This is the short of it: There are times in the industry where you are going to be asked about how much you know of a given application- Photoshop or others. If you were to run into a person with 5 years of Photoshop experience, you could expect them to know a thing or two about the application. But what if that experience was all File>Open , File>Save, File>Close? It could be hard to judge that.

Showing someone that you are an ACE lets them know that you have taken the hardest test proving competency in that application. If you have passed an ACE exam, you know your stuff! If you are an educator (or take some CompTIA exams) you can become an Adobe Certified Instructor. It looks great on a resume. It gives great validation to your skills, and it totally completes the geek profile. Believe you me, if I could laminate my ACI, I would (kidding).

For more information on it, check out the Adobe ACE site here:

That’s it for today everyone.. see you on Friday with our weekend contest!
