Hey everyone, I’m just getting back after a whirlwind weekend and trip to the Creative Suite Unleashed tour that was in Atlanta Georgia. This was the last tour that we are doing for the year, and I have to say I was so happy that it turned out to be Atlanta. The crowd was totally into what we were doing and we laughed, we cried.. and we learned all sorts of cool stuff.

This past weekend, Scott, Matt, Brad, Pam, and I spent it working on the Help Portrait project with Dr. Michael Sheehan at PAR in Largo, FL. PAR is a addiction recovery center that is unlike many in the states. Rather than separate the children from their mothers during their rehabilitation, the mothers and children live in a ‘village’ directly behind the facility. They are treated and taught parenting, letting the love of a child help in the recovery process. Dr. Sheehan wanted to take pictures of these women at the facility. Some had no kids, some were pregnant, and some even had children that were about 10 days old.

We setup a wonderful team of makeup artists, photographers, and digital editors that ran through the entire process. From makeup to print – we took care of the entire process for them. In the process we learned so much about grace, gratitude, and love. Coming home and seeing my daughter Sabine was one of the most refreshing and amazing things. It made you happy to be able to lend a hand to help.. and blessed to be surrounded by such good. A very warmfelt congratulations to Jeremy Cowart for getting the idea off the ground and into the ether. My deepest thanks to all of you who participated – here in Largo, or anywhere we served. An awesome day! Make sure you keep The Help Portrait website in your places to keep your eye on.

That Saturday just continued to get better and better. I was running high on life during the help Portrait when I went and checked my Twitter account. As I was checking it for Help updates, I started noticing a stream of congratulations coming through. I didn’t know what there were really for so I followed the chain up. Wouldn’t you know, Scott Bourne – famed photographer and host of the Photofocus website awarded me the honor of being the “Photograph of the Year” for 2009. Coming from Scott and his organization, it truly is an honor. This image is one of my all time favorite images that i’ve done, and a very personal one at that. Thank you so much Scott for helping me share that with the world. I am very grateful!
