Megan on Layers TV | New Deke McClelland Tutorial | Layers TV Contest Winner
Happy Thursday everyone. Couple of notes I’d figure I’d pass along here. First off, I am really, really excited to have Megan with me on this week’s episode of Layers TV. She worked with us in the office over the summer and just blew a bunch of us away with her illustrations that she creates right inside of Photoshop. I thought it was an awesome idea to have her on and just have her show us how she gets things done. I happen to think that sometimes, the best way to be able to learn something is just to watch someone else doing it for a little bit - like a fly on the wall. Boy, does she teach us a lot!
Make sure you check out the new episode on the right, or by clicking on this link
Nesting Smart Objects for Multimasks in Photoshop
Deke is just awesome - plain and simple. I can always count on him for doing one of two things - either blowing my mind with a great tutorial, or making me laugh out loud so much that water shoots.. well - you get the picture. Thankfully this time around Deke is teaching. Check out the tutorial on nesting Smart Objects:
“…One of the biggest drawbacks to smart filters is that all filters applied to a single layer must share a common filter mask. Fortunately, there’s a workaround. To make a long story short, you nest one smart object inside another. To keep the long story long, read the following steps, in which I’ll employ a total of four smart filters—two masked, two not—to both smooth and sharpen the detail in a photograph.

Finally, a special thanks to Carlos Gomez for winning this week’s Layers Contest. Felicitaciones!!! Make sure that you’re all entering these contests.. my office is full of stuff, and it all has to go!
Thanks for stopping in, everyone. I’ll see you guys on Friday!

I came across Layers looking for Photoshop tutorials and tuned into the Layers TV, I would like to thank everyone at Layers and Megan for the great episode which got me to dig out my Wacom Intuos 2 XD 6×8, update the driver and play around some. I bought it on close out sale and never got into it much because I couldn’t figure out how to get it to center on the screen. I use two 19″ monitors, one for drawing and one for tools and I just found out that I can set monitor 1 for the Wacom and it centers perfectly. My main interest is to create design patterns to be carved in bone.
I wish I could afford a subscription to Layers at this time but, I’m going to be laid off from work in two weeks and the bills are killing me now.
Thanks Megan and thanks to the Layers team for a wonderful magazine and web site.

Hey, I really like Meg’s work, it’s crazy what young teenagers/tweeners can do on the computer these days
She should be really pro in 5 or 6 years, by the time she’s 21!
