Kindle 2 Is Here!
One of the things that I saw yesterday was the launch of the new Kindle2.  The Kindle is one of those things that makes me think, “I wonder if I would read more if I had this thing?”  With a $359 dollar price tag, I seriously would hope that it does.  The technology is definitely a plus however.

To be able to access a ton of books online and be able to download those books in under 60 seconds is great.  To be able to take those books with me everywhere is another big plus.  I even like the options that they’ve included for reading the book back to you, and listening to some MP3 files.

However, as you can see on the graphic to the right, there is the one thing that I totally think things like Kindle are going to be great for – Textbooks and Reference Books.  For those that are Photoshop Inclined, imagine being able to carry around a bunch of key Scott Kelby, Matt Kloskowski, and Dave Cross books right on the Kindle.  This would be very good indeed.

Thankfully, these titles are appearing faster and faster thanks to our friends over at Peachpit.  From colleges to tech professionals, I think that technology like this could really help us.

I mean, imagine students at a University not having to haul anything around but this thing.  Great stuff.

Toast 9 Review

Daniel East takes us through a tour of whats cool in Toast 9.

“You may ask, “Why is third-party software necessary to simply burn CDs and DVDs?” For Roxio, there always seems to be more features that go beyond the burn. Toast 9 Titanium adds functionality that makes it slightly ahead of its time, such as the latest mobility, digital video recorder (DVR), and compression tools. Version 9 is one of the best ever updates for this software.”

Make sure you take a look at it at the link below:

The Kindle is great for convenience (although I still think a lot of the downloadable media is overpriced), but I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about the potential security/free speech implications of the digitization of books.
