Draw several overlapping shapes with the Rectangle tool or the Ellipse tool. Select all these shapes with the Selection tool and go to Object > Live Paint > Make. To paint sections of your Live Paint object, select a color from your Swatches palette (Window > Swatches) and choose the Live Paint Bucket tool (K). Move the tool over various Live Paint sections and when a shape gets outlined in red, click to paint it with the selected Swatch color. Change Swatch colors several times as you continue to click on sections with the Live Paint Bucket tool until all sections are filled with color.
So, why is it called “LIVE” Paint? Select any of the shapes with your Direct Section tool by clicking on the shape’s Fill. Then click and drag the shape and watch the “Live” update of the overlapping Fills.
