ss5.jpgHappy Wednesday everyone. There are two things to talk about today. First off – John Nack is reporting a problem that has been milling around their networks as of late. It seems that there are a couple of issues with saving Photoshop files directly to Network drives when using a 10.5.3 Mac. Both Apple and Adobe are aware of the situation and Apple is presently working on a fix for it.

Layers Blog Contest Winner
Congratulations to Glenn R. Comeau for winning Layers TV Episode 37′s contest. The correct answer was Julia Roberts – who I have to admit, I was a little star struck when I saw. She is just that pretty.

Be sure to sit with us this week as we go through yet another contest on Layers TV.

We also have a great tutorial from Geoff Blake on the use of Slices in Photoshop CS3. Make sure you check it out this morning after the jump.

Image Slicing in Photoshop – Geoff Blake

No doubt you’ve heard about image slicing, but do you know what it is and how it works? Image slicing is a technique for creating a web page (or a component of a web page, like a header or navigation menu) visually in Photoshop (Fireworks and Illustrator also allow you to slice images, too). But how does it work?

Well, you’d first design a page in Photohsop exactly as you want it to look when it goes live on the web. Then you cut out all the page components—title bars, buttons, navigation menus, and so on—using Photoshop’s Slice tool. Then, when you save everything out, Photoshop saves each slice as an individual graphic, and (and this is the icing on the cake for the code-leary) all the necessary code will automatically be written as well. Sounds awesome, huh?
