I like the video but I have one problem with it ( and yes I am aware of the last post being in 2009). He talks about demonstrating one light at a time to give you and idea of the affects of each type of lighting but I have to say it’s a bit offsetting and confusing to see him still using a flash for fill light. Granted their is still going to be some obvious differences but it’s a bit harder to see the exact property of just the continuous lighting when you are also using a fill flash to light some of the shadows. I understand you are also trying to capture some nice shots but it’s a bit deceiving to think you’d get those photos to look the same with just the continuous lighting without the fill flash you used. Just my two cents.

If I’m using an umbrella, I definitely prefer using a shoot through.

A very good tutorial, his demonstration of the shadow, using his finger and hand, to show the different hardness and softness, that you get from different distances of the light source, was excellent.

I like very much Jean Francois video tutorials: they’re very useful!
I work very much with umbrellas with models, but i prefer softboxes when shooting jewellery: maybe is personal taste, but I’m curious to hear from other photographers too…
