web design fonts

Nothing completes a project better than the really cool use of font. I started thinking about fonts because of a Layers Magazine article that came out this month. It’s written by Robin Williams who, let’s face it, I have a big design crush on. I was a big fan of her Web Design Workshop book – so much so that I’ve given away my last copy.

On a side note.. If you haven’t checked out Layers Magazine, you really need to subscribe. You get the content from experts like Robin, and from tons of other experts on all sorts of cool things Adobe. Next month we’re writing about sound – hear what I’m saying? OK, I’ll stop the punning there..

Robin’s article got me thinking about font choices, which got me thinking about fonts in general. So, in no particular order, here are some font sites that I think totally rock:

Typophile – I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Their type identification board is a great place to find out what a specific font is, and in record time.
Da Font is a great place to find free fonts. They can be sorted out by font type. Add to your collection here.
Cool Archive is a great place to find fonts and all sorts of cool goodies for your design projects.
Fonts.com is the MOA font stuff. That alone gives it an honorable mention.
Font Diner has got some great retro-looking fonts, and some free fonts available for download. It seems like I run into their Sparkly font everywhere.
Letterhead Fonts is the place where I just stare in awe at the coolness of cool font design.

That’s a short list – but don’t let me stop there. If you have a great font site, send us a comment. I’m sure the rest of the class would love to check them out!
